I'll have pictures up soon and an analysis of the event that will include embibing Moonshine and homemade Louisiana wine and whiskey.

Right now, I am sun burned and still wiped out from the heat. Haven't unpacked yet.

Great pics, long ride home, "only" a little over 1000 miles.......just got un-loaded, un-packed and the bottom of the sky fell out..........

After 10 hours on the road monday, we pull in to the hotel parking lot to find the passenger side front tire/wheel on my buddies trailer now has BURNT bearings....... I had 3 sets of bearing in my tool box and lucky for us, the spindle was not damaged, we began changing bearings/races but the retaining washer was a gonner and had to go to Home Depot for a standard washer that we made fit, finished the job about 1 minute before the sky opened up on in the parking lot.......

Our parking lot repair WORKED and we made it home today in 6 hours........NO MORE suprises, and no problems............
Tired, sunburnt, but a happy camper, had a great 4th weekend and saw a lot of old friends and made a bunch of new ones.......

I've come to the conclusion, the main difference between the cajuns and the New jersey "gang" is about 1500 miles......... we all like to drive fassssttt cars, drink "fine" liquor, eat good BBQ and just generally hang out and swap lies.........makes for good friends and good times........

PS: thanks for the canopy..........

David (new member of clubcranky, decals are on the car as we speak...)

Don't know what's up with the TnA but I can give you a report on the TnT activity. Four days I had a total of one (1), without the PRO TnT mixoligist from Bahston I just can't seem to get in the mood. Ken did a good job with the one I had but something is just missing. There were plenty of trailers to hold up but none of them seem to be leaning.Come to think of it I didn't drink much of anything besides water.I had a little shot of Al's homebrew but JM took that away and kept it for himself.
Somethings are just not the same. Hope you are having fun with the boat.

I too had a great weekend there. I ended up being very busy as staff all weekend, and every time I passed La Casa, it was empty. I did see many of you at the track, and heard the Mustang Thundering on the track. I even had it in my mirrors once, and let it past ASAP.

My Cobra ran flawlessly for the first time ever at a track event, never took out a tool, and it was very, very fast. Beat it sensless, it was always up for more. Paced a few of the parade laps as well.

Definitely a great convention.

I can vouch for those T&A shots, I too hurt my neck looking!

very true, the TnA was nice scenery, but we had no TnT drinkers, I brought home an almost full jug of T and threw out the extra limes....all freakin lightweights, club cranky needs its veteran TnT drinkers back!

Dan,
Just got a call this afternoon from the Ford dealer in Danville VA. After 5 days they are unable to fix my Diesel because they are not sure what is wrong with it.
I will be going back to VA Sat. to pick up my truck and trailer and Cobra.
Thanks to JM for the loan of his pickup and my brother Kevin who will be towing my truck back.

WARNING Never buy a vehicle or try to get service from a dealer located in the middle of nowhere.

trust me, I know how frustrating it is when something breaks away from home....I find it hard to believe that with all the diesel trucks around, even in that area, that they cant diagnose and fix the problem....where are all the diesel mechanics?

I finally got caught up with my life and had some time to put together my observations from SAAC 31…

- There is no better Ford event to see such a wide variety of Ford and Shelby automobiles and to rub elbows with many of the original drivers from back in the day as well as the people who carry on the tradition and history of some of these very unique automobiles.

- I really like beautiful restorations, but I am finding that the unrestored cars (like CSX2011) just blow me away! I love that in the Concours show they had 2 CSX2K cars parked next to each other….the Harr Ford SB Cobra "Found in the basement in MA" and the Tom Wilkerson restored slabside "Found in a Bedroom in GA" were great, Tom wanted to talk about the restoration on his car all day!

- Ron Richards (computerworks) is truly a modern day Indiana Jones! All weekend, all he did was document and photgraph as many original cars as possible. In all that heat, he was unstoppable and he was trying to track down an original Comp Cobra and as I understand it, his perserverance paid off!

(Ron on left, with Roger Davis)

- The folks at SAAC work really hard to put on a great event. Some folks like Jeff Burgy and Dan Reiter worked all weekend to pull off a great event. Thanks to everyone!

- I met a ton of CC members. Hard to remembers them all, but regardless of whether you were on track, in the car show or just coming by to say hi, everyone was very gracious and fun to talk to.

- We got to hook up with the southern Club Cranky contingent, Club Clampett, the regional prez is Al "My wife is gonna kick mah
a$$ if I go to the Crankoid BBQ and drink shine with JM" Adkins. Even though he showed up with a Gashole hat on, we still love him anyway.

- We created another Crankoid regional group too, Club Crawdad, regional prez is David Gagnard, just cuz he is so kissable. He brought his Ossie Davis limited edition Mustang racer to the event.

- We debuted a new Mustang racer, Rich Alpert's Monster Mustang (Monstang for short), he, Roger Davis and Ken Walder ran all weekend representing the Crankoids. JM did gopher work, towed cars and just drank a lot. We also debuted the limited edition Ford 500 JSX5000 series race car, 'powered by shine' vee-hicle.

- Rich Alpert's twin turbo Dragon Snake was dropped off in the car show (yes Evan... CSX4000 & CSX7000s were in the replica car show). When I went to pick the car up Sunday afternoon, it had won "The Most Unique Car in the Show".

- Dick Smith is a sweetheart. After nearly getting into a pile up with two other Crankoids he was trying to catch, he did what any pilot would do and punched out…he ended up in the weeds and he, Roger and Rich had a good laugh about it afterwards. He even signed our club banner..Jamo was right, a great guy and a gentleman to boot!

(Dick Smith signing the Crankoid banner right next to Phil Remington's signature)

- We had a BBQ at the house we rented Saturday night, Crankoids abounded as did the race group that was running with Mustang Don. David Gagnard cooked up some wild duck wrapped in bacon, we had venison, chicken, burgers and dogs, plus home Louisiana berry wine and whiskey and some NC moonshine or 'wash'. I found that it is possible to drink wine, whiskey, shine, shots and beers and not get too hung over, I think the shine took care of that!

My criticisms…..

- SAAC must learn to stay on schedule! Why doesn't the track open at the normal 6AM time for racers to get prepared? No sense in running off to a drivers meeting if your car isn't prepped.

- The run groups were too large and most times were a traffic jam. Everyone knows you don't go for the track time, but at least place similar driving skills and cars in the same group. Don't mix a street Taurus (yeah, that guy) in the same run group as 600+ HP race cars.

- It was a sin that the Group B race was cancelled! I really was lusting after the Trans Am cars to run in Group B. Why couldn't the schedule start earlier and run later? Seemed to me the track was clear on Sunday around 3PM. Why couldn't the afternoon OT groups be pushed back an hour and run the second race?

- The race paddock should be for race cars only. Have a separate section for vendors and manufactures. Whose idea was it to allow SPF to rope off an acre of track space? Nary one car in that group had a track pass on it other than Dennis Olthoff.
I am not bad mouthing the SPF owners, but I just don't know why they were allowed to take up so much space. Then whoever the guy was in the brimmed hat was getting pissy when he had to hold the yellow tape up to let a non track particpant out of the SPF pen only to be blocked by an oncoming race car….ugh, the horror!

All in all, it was a great time, very hot though, about 106 on the tarmac, in the low 90's on the grass under a tree.

Johnny Mac;

Great account of things, very accurate......thems SPF guys probably did not like it when I strolled thru their "compound" "kinda" dragging my feets in the dirt and making dust on their cars, BTW, I was on the way to the Crankoids camp with some lunch tidbits, but I guess you'll had gone eat somewhere, then I had to stroll right back thru the compound and do it again!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the presidency of the new regoinal club, I take it very serouisly, now, if it is possible I'd like to get a Club Cranky banner like you'lls and add at the bottom something to the effect of the regoinal Club Crawdad group, we is going to Barber Motorsports Park Labor Day Weekend for the Mustang bash over there and I would proudly hang the banner on the canopy you'll gave me.....(I guess you'll felt sorry for this dumb cajun once you'll saw my canopy, lol,lol.....)serouisly,let me know about getting a banner............

To Cranky,Richie,Ken,and Johnny Mac, it was grat meeting you'll as well as the other guys around the area........A buddy asked how my weekend went, told him most fun I had with my pants on and had some fun after hours with my pants off, but that's another story.......The little wifey enjoyed it as well and I got some video of her in the Womens Driving thing, she started 2cd in a field of 20 cars and finsihed up 2cd, could not even see the 3rd place car in her rear view mirror and they clocked her top speed on the front straight at a whopping 74 mph......

I'll send you some pics of the Ossie Davis car wearing it's new stickers and you can post them here......Ole CS ain't the only one that can build race cars, I made a little vin plate kinda like CS did and mine reads; DGX 5R001 stands for David Gagnard Expiremental 1965 Race serial #001....ole CS ain't got nothin on me.......

Wish you'll could/would come to Barber Motorsports on Labor Day, we could do it all over again!!!!!!!!!!

David

great summary JM....I felt bad for the "B" groups (real racers AND us schlubs in open track group B) for poor planning and preparation....every group I've done events with groups based on experience, not randomly, its unsafe and boring....we did get some decent room to play later on in the day saturday and sunday, thats a great track when there are no slowpokes in the way....and it goes without saying that the nice and rare cars were a real treat to see up close, as well as the good times with the great people in attendance....

Ken, Most other clubs when they sell out the beginner groups they stop taking applicants. With SAAC they just move guys with any experience at all up to the next group, in this case it was our group so now we have to deal with guys who had maybe one or two days track experience running with guys with 5-10 years track experience. We knew it was gonna be like that.
Better track time coming next month with Apex. 4 hrs. day one and 4.5 hrs day two. Bring extra tires and brakes.

Dave, BEWARE!!! That wasn't really Roger, it's that metro-sexual McMahon trying to get you far from home and lonely. He'll offer you a free room in the Seneca "cabins", and you'll never be able to turn off "show tunes" again, if you get my drift. But the track time is real, and the track is awsome. How much are you willing to sacrifice for track time?? We still run there, even on Judy G's birthday, so make your decision carefully.
